THE GREATEST SHOW ON ATLAS

January 24, 2025 Britt Johnson

Step right up, folks, and welcome to The Greatest Show on Atlas! This year, we transformed our backyard into a magical four-ring circus to celebrate Atlas turning the big FOUR. The day was packed with fun, laughter, and circus-inspired magic that left every guest grinning from ear to ear, even if it was painted on!

We went all out with the décor, embracing bold reds, yellows, and blues to capture the carnival spirit. A custom Big Top streamer display welcomed guests to the party, while a “4 Ring Circus” backdrop added a playful photo opp. No circus is complete without concessions, and we kept it simple but delicious. The concession stand was filled with animal crackers, cookies, and juice boxes, and the smell of fresh popped popcorn wafted through the air! A giant pizza from Manhattan Giant Pizza fed the whole crowd with room to spare! For dessert, we had a circus animal cracker cupcakes that Atlas helped decorate himself, perfectly rounding out the birthday feast.

Of course, the games took center stage! The ping pong goldfish game, a ducky pond, knockdown cans, hula hoop challenges, and a tattoo booth were just a few of the attractions where kids got a chance to win bags of goldfish (the snack, not the live kind!). The bouncy jumper was also a hit, providing endless fun for kids to burn off their sugar rush. Don’t forget to FOLLOW Atlas’ Big Top Bash Playlist on Spotify AND relive the day with us!

The real showstopper was Bubbles the Clown—a.k.a. Jose’s aunt—who brought a whole lineup of entertainment, including magic tricks, face painting, and balloon animals. The kids couldn’t get enough of her bubbly personality (pun intended) and colorful creations. Hearing Atlas laugh as he proudly said, “All my friends are here” was the highlight of the day!

As the day came to a close, guests went home with happy hearts and plenty of prizes from the games. Atlas had the time of his life running from one ring of fun to the next, and we loved seeing all the kids (and adults) fully embrace the circus spirit. To everyone who came out to celebrate our little ringmaster, thank you for making Atlas’ fourth birthday so special. It truly was The Greatest Show on Atlas!

Until next year—who knows what theme we’ll dream up next!

XoXo

Britt

P.S. Atlas LOVES his digital camera gift and as you can see he is already taking photos and will be making a blog post here soon sharing his snapshots!

BEARS CARDINALS AT SOLIDER FIELD WEST + FOOTBALL KICKOFF PARTY

November 8, 2024 Britt Johnson

DA BEARS came to town, so you all know what that means! I went all out celebrating my love for DA BEARS with a double-header: a Saturday kickoff party at my house, followed by Sunday’s tailgating and game day showdown between the Cardinals and Bears at "Soldier Field West" in Glendale, AZ. From themed treats and games to tailgating VIP-style, here’s a recap of our unforgettable football-filled weekend with my favorites!

It all started with a Saturday football kickoff party at my place. The decor was on point—think football-themed sugar cookies shaped like mini stadiums, a meat and cheese platter arranged to look like a football, and a custom photo backdrop with a balloon huddle. Atlas and I even made a DIY football garland to add some family flair!

We had activities for everyone: custom coloring pages and a football-themed “Guess Who” game featuring players from both teams. Nothing says game day fun like seeing friends and family get hyped to “guess” their favorite Cardinals and Bears players! My favorite part? A few intense rounds of bags with the fam and eating way too many nachos, QUE BUENO! Atlas stole the show, though—he was such a little host, making sure everyone was having a good time.

On Sunday, we headed to State Farm Stadium, also known (to us Bears fans) as “Soldier Field West.” We scored a prime tailgating spot near the bathrooms and had some TVs close to catch the morning games. We ventured over to Westgate to join some Bears pregame parties, snapping photos and taking in the atmosphere. The best part? Getting a VIP golf cart ride back to our tailgate spot from Westgate, waving and hyping up fans along the way. That’s what I was born to do!

Walking into the stadium, I proudly held my “Soldier Field West” sign high, and the sea of Bears fans cheered in solidarity. It was about 85% Bears fans, so the energy was there—even if the team’s performance wasn’t! While I loved seeing, MY QUARTERBACK, Caleb Williams on the field, I didnt think the coaching staff showed up; Matt Eberflus lacked that head coach presence. By the start of the fourth quarter, Bears fans started to leave, sensing there was no comeback in sight. BUT We stayed until the end, true die-hards, capturing every moment on camera, including a fight in the parking lot (don’t worry, we were just spectators!). The whole weekend is packed with great memories and some wild moments—make sure to check out the vlog for all the highlights and a few misses.

Bear Down Chicago Bears, we got half a season to go and Atlas just learned the fight song!

PRODUCE A PODCAST - ITS NOT EXTRA WORK

October 18, 2024 Britt Johnson

This October, I had the honor of speaking at Phoenix Design Week 2024, hosted by AIGA Arizona. The theme, "Oasis," was all about refreshing our creative spirits despite challenges—something that hit home for me when it comes to podcasting. I got to share how I stumbled into podcast production, helping my husband with our show, Finding Arizona Podcast, and how that passion grew into currently producing three podcasts: Finding Arizona, The High Achieving Female, and A Taste of AZ!

Hosting a session at Phoenix Design Week was both exhilarating and humbling. I went from being a student of the industry to standing in front of peers as a teacher. I’ve always said that the best students become great teachers, and that’s how it felt! So many people feel podcasting is too much extra work, but the truth is, it doesn’t have to be! It can fit right into what you're already doing. Here are some of the main takeaways I shared during my talk, all of which you can start applying right now:

  • Repurpose What You Already Do: You don’t need to create new content for every episode. Start with what you already have—blogs, social posts, presentations—and build from there.

  • Keep It Simple: Podcast production doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive. You can start with basic equipment and upgrade as your show grows.

  • Be Scrappy and Authentic: Authenticity is what connects you with your audience. Don’t worry about perfection; focus on sharing what you love.

My favorite part of speaking was connecting with the audience afterward—having them stay to ask questions and tell me how inspired they felt was such a rewarding experience. If I can impact even one person, I feel like I’ve done my job and I impacted a few!

If you’re feeling like you need some help getting started, Finding Arizona offers podcast production services that make it easy. Whether you want to start your show or take your existing one to the next level, we're here to support you! Don’t hesitate to reach out or check out what we offer here!

ATLAS' NEW SCHOOL ADVENTURE

October 11, 2024 Britt Johnson

After nine months of the preschool hustle, we’ve made a big transition – Atlas started at a new school! Nothing new about it... It’s been around for 75 years, so I know we’re stepping into something solid, especially with its focus on community, which is huge for us. And while the price tag is still crazy, it fits our family’s budget a little better. Let’s be honest, how are you you raising your kids in this economy? 😝

After a week of “new school,” Atlas agreed to go back on Monday. He still says he likes his old school more though (change is tough, right?), and every morning, I get the adorable, “Mom, can you stay with me for a couple minutes?” But once he’s off playing with friends, he’s totally in his element. One of my favorite moments from his first day? I didn’t have the gate code yet, so I told Atlas, “Watch this—it’s how you make friends.” I asked another parent if he didn’t mind letting us in, and boom, instant connection. A dad dropping off his daughter got us in, and we were off to a great start.

I’m most excited about the sense of community and long-standing traditions this school offers. It’s an academy, which means there’s room for Atlas to grow, build roots, and make memories. I’m looking forward to getting involved, too! Watch out PTA. The environment is definitely more hands-on, with a variety of activities. It’s faith-based, which is new for us, but it’s sparking some big, beautiful conversations at home, and I love that. As a family, we’re embracing it and welcoming everything it brings to our house; even saying “Grace” at family dinner now.

Atlas, on the other hand, is LOVING the activities. In just his first week, he did karate, had a picnic, named three types of apples (Granny Smith is his favorite), and even did a science experiment where he “parted the water” like a mini Moses. Oh his new friend’s name is Moses, they both have Lightening McQueen shoes, Kachow! He started soccer and is signing so much, right now practicing Star Spangled Banner for Homecoming!

I’m feeling good about this change. Sure, school is scary in so many ways right now, but I’m focused on raising a bold, brave, and confident kiddo. If I can do that, I’ll feel a little more relieved sending him off every day, knowing he’s ready to face the world with courage and kindness. Here’s to new beginnings, building community, and watching Atlas take on the world!

FAMILY STAYCATION AT WE-KO-PA RESORT CASINO

September 6, 2024 Britt Johnson

Its been a few weeks since our staycation at the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort, and Atlas keeps asking if we can go back to “We-Ko-Pa-Pa!” where our family enjoyed an unforgettable experience. Here’s a glimpse into our delightful itinerary and the fantastic time we had and Phoenix’s first Casino and new fam fav and Finding Arizona FIND.

Thursday, Check-in and Property Tour - Our adventure began with a warm welcome and an effortless check-in process. We all arrived as a family, with my parents visiting from San Diego. We thought a suite could accommodate some bomb babysitters for Atlas, making it a perfect setup. After checking in, we were greeted by Gail Manginelli, who took us on a fascinating tour of the property. Gail’s insights made us appreciate the resort's unique charm, and we were especially impressed by the resort's ties to the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.

Pool Time! Next, we hit the pool, our favorite spot at the resort. Atlas, our little fish, loves the water just like his mama! The waterfalls were a big hit, and the pool depths were perfect for a casual cool-off or a full swim. It was the ideal way to start our staycation.

7 pm - Dinner at Ember - Jose and I had the pleasure of enjoying a date night dinner at Ember, the resort’s signature restaurant. We were treated to shared bites from the kitchen and a welcome glass of champagne to kick off the night. My favorite part was the piano player who rocked the evening with fantastic tunes. It was a lovely way to wind down and connect with out our extra co host.

Friday am Early Morning Dip - The next morning, the family started our day with a refreshing dip in the pool, being the first ones in to watch the fountains turn on. It was a serene and magical experience.

Breakfast at Ahnala - Before our podcast recording ,Jose and I got to enjoy a nice breakfast at Ahnala. Breakfast is my favorite and the Starbucks coffee was exactly what I needed. We stuffed ourselves again and enjoyed a producer prep conversation before our interivew.

9 am - Podcast with Liz Norton - We then recorded a podcast with Liz Norton, the Acting Marketing Director of We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort. Jose, as the host, led a wonderful conversation where Liz shared fascinating stories about the resort. Her personal anecdotes and genuine passion for her work added a special touch to our conversation. You can watch the full episode HERE.

11 am - Massages - After a busy morning, Jose and I treated ourselves to a relaxing one-hour massage. The skilled therapists worked their magic, melting away our stress and leaving us rejuvenated. It was the perfect way to conclude our staycation while Atlas, Papa and GG got some fun suite time in. You have to SEE the vlog to see what we walked into

Hotel Atlas" was a vibe! Atlas strutted around with a straw in his stuff, danced up and down the elevators, and snacked his way through the days. His joyful energy was contagious and added an extra layer of fun to our stay. The overall family feel of the resort was fantastic. Everyone had a great time, including grandpa, who hit his favorite game and cashed out as a winner. Bingo!

Until next time

CALGARY, CANADA CONFERENCES AND CANCELLATIONS

July 1, 2024 Britt Johnson

I am flying back from an eventful work trip to Canada, and oh boy, do I have some memories to share with you! I was there for BCW's SMART Growth International Business Expo 2024, which brings together business communities from Western Canada, Africa, the USA, and the Caribbean. KNOW was there as media partners. My CEO and partner in this high vibe life, Sarah Benken Foushee was there to moderate a panel and gave the closing keynote. Plus, we were podcasting onsite, capturing stories from global leaders.

Calgary was out destination, and I have a whole post I need to share on obtaining my Expedited Passport 5 days before my trip! Our tip was originally scheduled for four days, but thanks to a last-minute airline strike, we got stuck for an extra two days, making it a six-day adventure. Honestly, all I could think about was getting back home to my boy and hubby. Why did the airlines have to strike at the worst possible time?

The conference was packed with panels, keynotes, and carbs. After a day full of brain + stomach food, we hit up rooftop bars, private social clubs, and some swanky hotel bars. I even stumbled upon the cutest thrift shop called Good Neighbour and did some sightseeing in Chinatown and the vibrant 5th street scene. Drinking my way through Calgary’s IPAs! I fell in love with the 88 Wave Pool Tropical IPA and Banded Peak Microburst Hazy IPA. But honestly, what made this trip bearable was getting closer to my boss and her husband, who are like family to me. They’ve got my back, both personally and professionally.

But let’s talk about the challenges. Finding out our flight was canceled due to a WestJet strike was a nightmare. Navigating a new country and its laid-back culture was another hurdle. I mean, who knew patience was such a virtue in Canada? Everything is a bit off from the hot sauces to the iced teas to everything in between.

It was an honor to represent KNOW Women and connect with global leaders and add international podcast producer to my resume, but I’m so ready to be back home to the states.

Happy Canada Day!

XoXo Britt

FAM FAVORITE 1 HOUR PIZZA DOUGH

June 7, 2024 Britt Johnson

Pizza night just became a weekly staple on Fridays at our house PLUS a whole lot easier with this 1-hour pizza dough recipe. This recipe is a favorite in our house, duplicated in other houses and a WIN with my toddler, Atlas. It’s quick, simple, and fun to make together, too!

Ingredients:

  • 3-⅓ cups bread flour or all-purpose flour (dipped and leveled)

  • 1 packet instant (rapid-rise) dry yeast (2-½ teaspoons)

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 2 teaspoons fine sea salt

  • 1-¼ cups warm water

  • Extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Stir until everything is mixed together.

  2. Add Water: Pour in the warm water and stir until a shaggy dough forms, with just a little bit of dry flour left at the bottom of the bowl.

  3. Knead the Dough: Remove any rings from your fingers. Knead the dough in the bowl with both hands until no more dry flour remains and the dough comes together into a ball. This should only take a few minutes.

  4. Let It Rise: Drizzle some olive oil inside a large bowl (or clean the one you used). Place the dough ball in the greased bowl, cover tightly with a lid or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for at least 45 minutes to 2 hours.

  5. Check the Dough: After 45 minutes, your dough should have grown by at least 50 percent and have little bubbles on the bottom. If you want a slightly airier dough, let it rise for another hour.

  6. Divide and Rest: Dust a clean work surface with flour. Divide the dough into two equal pieces and form each piece into a ball. Place the dough balls on the floured surface and cover with an inverted bowl or plastic wrap. Let rest for 10 to 15 minutes.

  7. Stretch/Roll the Dough: Take one dough ball and place it on a lightly floured surface. Flatten it a little with your hand or a rolling pin, then pick up the dough and gently stretch or roll it out until you have a 12-inch round. Repeat with the second dough ball.

  8. Top and Bake: Top your stretched dough with your favorite toppings and bake according to your preferred pizza recipe. If you're only using one dough ball, you can freeze the second one or refrigerate it for up to 2 days.

My favorite way to cook is using my cast iron, On high heat brown one side of the crust. When a slight smoke rises from the pan, flip the dough. Quickly sauce + top and place in the oven on Broil. Watch it bubble and brown. Slice and Serve!

This 1-hour pizza dough is a game-changer for us. It's straightforward, quick, and yields a delicious crust that holds up to any toppings you throw on it. Whether you’re a seasoned home cook or just starting, this recipe is sure to become a family favorite, just like it has for Atlas and me. Happy pizza making!

XoXo

Britt

THE BEST HOME FLIPS IN PHOENIX

May 24, 2024 Britt Johnson

When you think of the land of opportunity, is Phoenix, Arizona the first place that comes to mind? This desert city is entering yet another growth cycle, with one of the best job economies in the country, with the average salary 20 percent higher than the national average. At the same time, median home prices are below the national average—at least for now.

Phoenix is poised for another real estate boom, which points to rising home values. Real estate company Tomo analyzed the top home flips in the United States and found that Phoenix is a standout in multiple categories. With major tech companies and new residents eager to call Phoenix home, this is an attractive time to update and list your property.

Keep on the sunny side

The Phoenix metro area draws people from across the nation. Fortune 500 companies and small businesses alike put down roots in this growing city. Top employers in Phoenix include Banner Health, American Express, Amazon, and Walmart—all of which are in growth cycles of their own. With a projected job increase of 48.2 percent over the next ten years, job seekers will continue to flow to Phoenix.

Many newcomers are arriving from larger cities like San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Austin. These ultra competitive real estate markets make home ownership impossible for most working people. In Phoenix, however, buying property is a real option. The top five flips identified by Tomo shared all the elements of perfect starter homes:

  • Renovated interior

  • Low maintenance landscaping

  • Access to freeways and public schools

  • New weather proofing and appliances

  • Great value and a fair price

Tomo found that the most successful home flips in Phoenix, AZ made the most of the properties’ attractive qualities. All these homes were complete home renovations. The top flip increased its sale price by 233 percent. In total, all five flips generated an increase to sales price of $1.2 million, and were flipped in as little as five months.

Put your best foot forward

Managing a successful home flip can feel overwhelming. However, identifying your property’s potential may be key to closing at more than double your purchase price. Open floor plans, new HVAC and interior climate control options, new windows, and other features attract buyers who want the most value for their money. Curb appeal is second to common sense in this market, especially when it comes to the weather.

Phoenix is a desert lover’s dream, with gorgeous sunsets, great restaurants, and constant sunshine. However, the climate can be intense for people who aren’t familiar with the Southwest. Summer temperatures make indoor comfort non-negotiable. Smart flips take this into account. You don’t have to install a solar panel in the front yard—but it might pay off!

The most valuable flips included brand-new renovations and installations that can handle 100-degree summers, but still keep cozy during the mild winters. Here are the top 5 listings that made our Best Flip list:

#5 1757 East Chambers Street

When style and solid design intersect, it’s a beautiful thing. This flip captures the best of both with brand-new hardware, a new air conditioning system, a new water heater, new windows, and more. A new roof and new exterior stucco add energy-saving elements as well. Inside, classy grey cabinetry, a gourmet kitchen with a backsplash and stainless steel appliances, and custom tiling throughout the home make this comfortable 3-bedroom property feel luxurious and roomy. With only a five-month renovation, this flip increased its value from $155K to $377K—a change of 143 percent.

#4 1823 East Harvard Street

Love the architecture of bygone decades? This 1930s home is pure Old Hollywood glamour, with black and white accents that showcase its vintage features. Originally purchased in 2023, the property underwent an extensive and total renovation, selling eight months later for $616K. The home’s fully upgraded interior plays to the black-and-white theme, with white quartz countertops and white subway tiling in the showers. A new roof and stucco, new windows, new air conditioning system, and covered parking took this classic beauty into the modern age.

#3 514 East Charleston Avenue

This fully renovated manufactured home offers plenty of room to grow, both inside and out. Located in a quiet, well located North Phoenix neighborhood, this flip features a spacious split master floor plan and two-car garage. A new HVAC unit, dual pane windows, and a large fenced yard offer privacy and protection—not to mention abundant space for trailers, boats, and slab parking. New stainless steel appliances and a new roof are the cherry on top. This home sold in 2022 for $142K. Post-flip, its price tag was 146 percent higher, closing at $350K.

#2 208 West Wier Avenue

The price tag on this charming flip only sweetens the deal. This 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom home is perfect as a first home or investment property. Purchased for $110K in 2023, this home sold only five months later for $300K. The house has been painted in classic Southwest colors in and out. It sits inside a spacious fenced yard. The interior is fully renovated, with new tile flooring, two new full baths, and an all-new kitchen with new cabinets and backsplash. New air conditioning, new ceiling fans, and new windows with sunscreens help summer-proof this adorable home.

#1 2506 East Allan Street

While it may look humble from the sidewalk, this fully renovated home is incredibly classy inside. Its open living room is filled with natural light. The key word for this home is new, with brand-new floors, fresh paint, recessed lighting, ceiling fans, kitchen, bathrooms, and more. Best of all, the backyard showcases stunning mountain views of South Mountain. This home sold in 2023 for $90K, but after its flip, more than doubled its purchase price. Only six months later, it sold at $300K-233 percent above its initial purchase price.

Are you contemplating a total renovation? Want to make the most of Phoenix’s booming economy and overall growth trends? Now might be the time to flip. New buyers in Phoenix are looking for fully renovated homes with summer-smart upgrades that are built to last.

KNOW SUMMIT 2024 SUCCESS

April 26, 2024 Britt Johnson

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be in a room filled with AMBITIOUS female entrepreneurs, leaders, and C Suite executives? This is KNOW! And Moving to Master Summit 2024 was the place. The Palomar Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, was buzzing with energy as women from all over gathered for three days of inspiration, empowerment, and connection.

From fire side chats with Rachel Roff and Jill Osur to a keynote speech from Jen Welter, first female NFL coach this event bas back to back! In between were panel discussion and hands-on workshops, there was no shortage of valuable insights and knowledge to soak up at the KNOW Summit. I was excited to put some faces to names, meet some phenomenal women and, of course, see the the Summit week of style!

I am honored to work with the visionary, Sarah Benken Foushee who dreams up the whole vision. Then, amazing power players come together to execute it. Huge shout out to Dreams to Reality from Tampa, FL for their amazing builds. I love having our resident DJ, Sarah Selfish to play summit from the walk out music during programming to the Tropical Disco Dance Vibes + its after party! +++ My task force of volunteers and HQ, we could NOT run with out you!

My favorite takeaway from Jen Welter was her stating if you share your dream with someone, listen to how they react! If they encourage and ask more, those are your people. Sitting here I cannot pin point one moment I loved most. I think it was the genuine conversations, connections and compliments from those cheering me on while I cheer them on.

POTTY TRAINING DIARIES

March 15, 2024 Britt Johnson

"Rome wasn't built in a day," so naturally potty training Atlas has been 5 months in the making. Luckily, I diaried it all in action, photos and screen shots included.

9/6/23 Day 1: Amazon, for the win and Elmo was the choice over the Target budget bundle of undies that went back after he immediately said “No no no.”

This morning we started off with a couple hours, education and asking every five minutes to go potty. After sitting on the potty for a little bit, we were able to get enough to celebrate, and a sticker to go on the chart.

I also put a post up on Instagram asking for advice tips tricks. Prayers, books., etc . Will share responses:

Day 2: Okay! Magical Checklist:

  • Stickers for reward

  • Books and mags for reading materials

  • Grunt, relax, breath, feel it here ( point to bowels )

  • Routine: put back on undies, hand wash, get sticker on the chart, run and tell dada!

  • Lots of praise!

Only pee and lots of it so far! “Try again” one more time”. No poop yet …

Day 5 : The past few days have been a blur. I think he is nap rebellion because of potty training, but I am no child psychologist. This morning before we sat down for breakfast he stood up and pointed to his belly, and I asked if he wanted to go potty and he said, “Yes,” so we started off really good and really early. Still no poop yet just practicing reading relaxing.

I thought maybe he was getting poop shy so started to do laundry while he was sitting there and then he got distracted.

Day 9: starting right out of bed in the potty  is a huge win! Let’s Keep it Up!

1/26/24 Day 109 or Day 10? Operation Weekend No Pants!

After off and on tries since September we are commuted to a no pants weekend and really getting this done!

Friday and Saturday we had events and dance class so although we used big boy undies he never “went” when we were out.

Monday allergies hit hard so with an extra runny nose we are staying in and really going pantsless.

I left Monday morning for work so were singing all day Daniel Tigers’ “When you have to go potty stop and go right away,” song, I came home immediately to “look mom!” Straight to his potty in the bathroom to show me he can go and wash and dry and he was so excited.

2/5/24 The Final Days: School started and we knew that this was the final piece in the puzzle of potty training… seeing other kids like him use it!

So we loaded up on PullUps and sent him off to school with a few changes of clothes.

Teacher was impressed and said he was using it with the other kids.

At home the Pullups turned into another diaper so we are back to no pants and home!

2/25/24: Today I am getting rid of the changing table in his room. We no longer use it. We potty in the potty or change in the bathroom and need to associate all those things n that room. Time for a mini big boy room update.

3/2/24: Big boy undies all day.

Pottied at the Home Depot Public Bathroom!

Went Poo Poo in the potty at home later in the afternoon.

Pottied for the baby sitter while mom any dad were rearing a podcast.

I think I am ready to post our diaries and frame the last diaper ever!

I know we will have plenty of accidents but the days of diaper genies and the grossest changing tables in public restrooms are in the rear view!
