AUGUST FINAL FRIDAY FIVE FAVORITE FINDS - SATURDAY EDITION

August 31, 2019 Britt Johnson
Aug Favorite FInds website

August is my birthday month! This was a mile stone- the big THREE OH! Im feeling older and wiser and sore all from laying 1000 square feet of sod in our yard. Time is flying and that means the wedding timeline is too! Here are the 5 things that Joe and I indulged in between podcasts, wedding planning, home rennos, and work.

BRITT’S FIVE

  1. PRESENTS - It is my love language. Not sure what that means you can read the blog about it here . For my 30th birthday my parents gifted me 30 presents! It was amazing: from lotions to snacks to clothes to a custom painted Frida guitar and Wedding Corn Hole set. I am grateful for all the love on my birthday!

  2. CAR HUMIDIFIER- Yes- I am boujee. Not only do I recomend sleeping with a humidifier with a few drop of essential oil but you need to put one in your car too! It not only calms and refreshed you but also your car. I keep a waterbottle to refill and usually keep lemongrass and peppermint to drop in for my commutes. Here is the one I got on amazon!

  3. MORNING RUNS- Finally the weather is nic(er) to wake up and roll out of bed to pop on my running shoes and hit the canal. Just a short jog but enough to count and keep me motivated to do several times a week.

  4. SAGE AUBREY- I am finally part of the Sage Squad! Sage Aubrey is a phenomenal designer, motivating mother and an overall beautiful inside and out human being! I have been eyeing her bags since before I met her and now I am the proud owner of the MINI HELLA NAVY. Catch her around town with me holding everything I need to get through my day.

  5. MEXICAN REFRIED BEANS - Im the most non-mexican mexican you’ll meet. I eat tortillas and beans and tacos a few times a week. For me, everyday is taco tuesday! While I was blessed to have my family in town this week my mom taught me how to make refried beans from scratch. I am going to save the recipe for a Finding Arizona Kitchens Blog post and you will not want to miss that one!

JOSE’S FIVE:

  1. VEME.LY- Everybody wants to have content that has captions below it nowadays. When you have a little time to edit the captions into your videos this app will be a timesaver. Where it lacks most is that you do have to pay a subscription but for the price and the time saved it is up to you whether or not you use this tool to its finest.

  2. SMOOTHIES- Always healthy and always delicious this drink is always going to be stable for my morning or my afternoon. I’ve recently tried more and more kinds of smoothies at home and at my local smoothie shop. (Smoothie King).

  3. VITAL PROTEINS - Alongside my smoothies, I put this protein in to help give it an extra kick. Brittany has drawn concerns about collagen so I choose this mix in particular because I wanted to try something different. We both enjoy because of the ability to put it in any smoothie or drink we want.

  4. SUCCESSION-The new season of the HBO series has come out and simply WOW!!! If you haven’t caught on yet, you need to. Every character is uniquely situated in this season to take out everyone. At the same time, there are family and family ties under all the tension.

  5. BOOGIELO (SUNSET CRUISE)- Our most recent musical guest put out a new album for the summer. And this episode we talked about how much these guys are working to try and get their voices together. In this album, you’ll start to hear the blend of their work. The other thing that I am so excited about is the lyrics that still question a lot of things around them. They have a ton of potential and I can only see them going up further from here.

September is Jose’s Buirthday Month! Keeping up the “Happy 30th Birthday” decor and getting ready to celebrate another year of greatness.

XoXo

30 THINGS I LEARNED BEFORE TURNING 30

August 27, 2019 Britt Johnson
30 birthday mermaid pool photos

I am officially in the the #30 club. And honestly it has been 24 hours of work! If this is what getting old is then I don’t want to grow up. I wanted to put this post up before the big day but it came so quick!

It started with laying 960 square feet of sod in our backyard. Then an amazing Sunday BBQ with family opening 30 presents consecutively had to have been my favorite part. Then the day of I worked as a typical adult would and today the day after put in a 12+ hour day. But in the spirit of many of the rules of this post I learned so much and wanted to share 30 that stand out to me and I look to practice everyday into my next 30 (and many more) years.

Also what is a birthday post without a fun photo shoot. Thank you Jose for making my mermaid dreams come true for a moment

30 THINGS I LEARNED BEFORE TURNING 30

  1. How to use power tool and build something. They may be build primarily for righties but I love learning how to use a machine and creating something from it!

  2. Dogs are not that scary. It it the owner that is and I feel in love with one we adopted last year named Winter.

  3. I am an introvert. I chose staying in over going out and binging a show verses bar hoping any day of the week. I will go out but need a proper bedtime.

  4. Nine PM is the new Midnight. Like the lesson above I learned I am a morning person and find the AM for accomplishing tasks. Early to rise is early to bed that is what they say?

  5. Thirty is the new 20. I still have so much to learn about myself and others. I have plenty of amazing things to cross off the bucket list and look forward to doing alot this next decade.

  6. There is no timeline for life. Just like the previous lesson: dont rush; ebjoy the present.

  7. My body will change and I will always love it. A woman’s body is miraculous thing and each year I learn to love mine and all the changes its making.

  8. Listen to your body. Inside and out my digestion, gut health and skin can tell me just as much about my health as some professionals can.

  9. Wear what you love. I am sure you see my thrift shopping adventures which is why I can budget in pink tutu skirts and yellow raincoats: they make my happy and I pay by the pound. Style is what you make it.

  10. Take care of yourself before you have to. Dont wait until it is too late to take the vitamins, eat the raw foods, or go for the run. These are all GREAT habits that only start 1 day at a time.

  11. Pick your battles. If it won’t matter in 5 years don’t spend more than 5 minutes thinking about it. This is still a practicing trait daily.

  12. Manifestation is real. What do you want? Put it out into the universe AND be willing to work or answer or listen or reply or show up for it! The key is the second part.

  13. It’s okay to just cry. No reason; just let it out.

  14. Don’t follow anyone who makes you feel bad about yourself. In real life and in social media if you find yourself comparing in an unhealthy way and it overall its not adding value to your life then unfollow or remove that person from being around you as much as possible.

  15. Stand up for yourself and those you love. Use your voice for who and what you love most!

  16. “Work” isn’t everything. This is my current practicum. Tips appreciated.

  17. Sorry is overused. Especially by me. I need to stop apologizing as Rachel Hollins would say!

  18. You don’t have to always do your hair or wear makeup. In fact love your natural beauty FIRST!

  19. Wear Sunscreen. And apply a few times a day.

  20. Travel alone. Not just to the movies or the grocery store but take a flight and discover a new city by yourself.

  21. Join a club. For me it was a book club. Having people gather over a common interest to discuss and interact and hold each other accountable is important in many reasons. We did it as kids and loved it and its even better as adults!

  22. Vinyl is the best sound for music. Digital music is everywhere and tapes are non existent. But the one thing that will not change will be the everlasting classic sound of a record hitting the needle.

  23. Being sweet all the time can get you in trouble. But so can being salty. Just be you but know how to be it.

  24. I can bake, cook, grill, fry, broil, sear, you name it and Ill make it! I crossed most of these out before 10 but I love getting in the kitchen and practicing all these skills.

  25. Alcohol is not for me. I can make you a mean drink and maybe enjoy a small one with you, but my body does not like it and I don’t want to fight it.

  26. Always wash your face before bed. Another reference to Rachel Hollins’ book.

  27. Do it right or do it again. Simply and perfectly put.

  28. Put your phone away because life happens not on a timeline.

  29. Mexican is my favorite food but the best is STILL Jalisco Cafe in Imperial Beach.

  30. My face cannot hide any of my reactions and I am okay with being me because everyone else is taken.

DATE NIGHT: TACO BELL CANTINA PHOENIX

August 2, 2019 Britt Johnson
Date Night Taco Bell Cantina Night

Jose and I are always looking for easy ways to keep it spicy. From planning a wedding to maintaining a consistent podcast schedule, it gets difficult, sometimes, to remember to take time for us. We routinely make sure to get out for date nights and mix up the norm to avoid this robotic lifestyle. Recently we went to the Taco Bell Cantina and found it to be quite the Friday Night Fiesta!

Only 1 of 20 in the United States and 1 in 13 that serve liquor, the Taco Bell Cantina is a place to add to your things to do this in Phoenix, Aizona. It’s smaller than a regular sized restaurant and tucked away in the Collier Center on Second Street off Washington Street- but once you open the doors and the smell of Fire sauce hits your nose it becomes a place you never want to leave.

Date Night Taco Bell Cantina Phoenix

So what makes it special? Alcohol for starters. The drinks and apps are a mandatory order. Chose from margarita, piña colada and Mountain Dew freezes, which can be ordered with rum, vodka or tequila. Pair it with Cheesy Jalapeño dippers like us, or Mini quesadilla nachos or Naked chicken chips. Also , the decor is next level, flat screens coming together to make a wall of tvs to catch things like the latest boxing match or a hilarious comedy movie.

After stuffing our faces and finishing our delicious drinks we had to be the Instagram couple and take come great photos at the hot sauce wall before walking the gorgeous city.

I’m looking to go back ASAP; curious if they honor that Dbacks deal? Anyway, if you want to Cantina it up, let me know, comment bellow. I’m always drown for TBell.

JULY FINAL FRIDAY FIVE FAVORITE FINDS - SATURDAY EDITION

July 27, 2019 Britt Johnson
July Favorite FInds website

From opening up our guest room to adjusting into a new career, July was a pretty crazy, quick month! So quick in fact, we had turn this Final Friday Blog post into a Saturday Morning Edition! Enjoy the 5 things we each were loving this month.

BRITT’S FIVE

  1. THEMED PARTIES - Earlier this month we threw a Puppy Party inspired by the show Vanderpump Rules. James Kennedy and his girlfriend were planning a puppy shower for their new pup, but since ours was turning one we wanted to throw her a big bash. So after Pinterest-ing a few themes I went with: “Wild One “. We had a Blaze Your Own Trail Mix and other punny food themes. And after whipping out a few different versions of the lavender lemonade I really feel like I’ve nailed it. You can check out some of the photos here. But this inspired me to want to go back to the old-school way of doing parties; cheesy, but they work and everyone loves them. Take our wedding for example black and white everyone in theme: simple and so perfect. It is going to work so well!

  2. THE RESIDENT ON FOX- After starting my new position I realize that I quickly needed to advance my clinical skills so I was searching for a show to start to binge watching and came across The Resident on Hulu. Originally airing on Fox, this drama captures not only the OR but the AR (accounts receivable). I love relating to every aspect and also learning what a new abbreviation stands for or braving myself to watch a laryngoscope camera capture a biopsy to test for cancer.I just saw this and didn’t look away or cringe! If you have any other medical shows, podcasts or books I can learn from, send my way.

  3. GREEK FOOD- I am 14% Italian/ Greek/ Southern European so I am obsessed with mediterranean food. A warm pita, fresh feta, spicy hummus, tender gyro, juicy olives, my mouth waters talking about it. I recently discovered the gyro making kit at Costco and except for not enough pitas, which is always a problem, they were delicious! The gyro is combo beef lamb and so tender and flavored well. Plus, the taziki sauce is quality! Add fresh tomatoes and greens and it’s a great meal. We also have a place called Halal Guys here in Arizona that is so good; street pitas as fresh as can be!

  4. COLOR COORDINATING MZY HOME SCREEN- I saw it in a mag, googled it and saw that Martha Stewart had and article about it so I immediately took a mindless Instagram scrolling night and organized my apps in ROYGBIV order. I thought I would be so difficult to find them, but quite the opposite. My brain automatically knows the color associated with the app, blue: Twitter, FaceBook, Orange: Vivint , Red: Instagram, Yelp. Try it out. It’s so aesthetically pleasing.

  5. ONLY CUBS BASEBALL - Not to be a Negative Nancy, but my last favorite is from a recent realization of what I don’t enjoy! Recently I attended two Diamondback / Dback (whatever they go by) games in a four day span. At first I was excited, ballpark snacks, a live sports atmosphere, but after the 3rd inning I was over it. I realized when you don’t enjoy any of the teams playing, baseball can be a very boring sport. I am sorry to offend any fans out there, but, I don’t remember the last non-cubs baseball game I went to whether that was in Arizona, San Diego, Los Angeles, and of course Chicago. I came home from that Monday night game and turned on the final inning of the cubs game.

JOSE’S FIVE:

  1. GOOGLE SKETCHUP - The last couple of weeks I have been designing not only at work but at home too. This easy 3D modeling program has help me create things that are hard to envision in the mind. It is a free program and you can access it on SketchUp.com

  2. RAW MEAL DIET- As the 3-0 dwells closer and closer, Britt and I are taking advantage of all health knowledge and making healthy choices together. One we have started is doing 1 raw meal a day. Meaning throughout the day we decide on one meal that has to be completely raw. No sugars, preservatives, or carbs. Which has been helping a lot with our digestion.

  3. CBD RUB - Chronic lower back issues has been my achilles heel for years, and now I have solution to when it flares up. Any CBD rub gives my inflammation an instant relief. Granted, this is not a cure all. I also have continued my stretching and my yoga to help strengthen my core which is the root of my issue.

  4. THE BOYS - This Amazon Original series is new product to the superhero world. The pitch here for this series is “WATCHMEN MEETS KICKASS AND MAKE IT INTO A SERIES.” Surprisingly finding its way through dark humor and superhero antics, I enjoy the overall characters. If you are a fan of the DEADPOOL movies, you will definitely enjoy this hit.

  5. 90’s PLAYLIST (SPOTIFY) - I was doing some wedding playlist searching, and found myself listening to this playlist. It brought me back to my childhood and it felt great to bob my head to every song in the line-up. You can follow this playlist and jam with me here.

August is my Birthday Month! Thirty is approaching and I am excited for the wedding plans to come together.

JUNE FINAL FRIDAY FIVE FAVORITE FINDS

June 28, 2019 Britt Johnson
JUNE Favorite FInds

June makes is Summa Summa Summa Time in AZ and things are heating up. Temps hit 110 this week and here are the 5 things we each did to keep our cool and stay cool.

BRITT’S FIVE

  1. ONE RAW MEAL A DAY- If you have not read my blog post about my results from my food sensitivities test, I suggest you do so here. But, LMTY (Let me tell you) I think I just made that acronym up. I am really more conscious of my food habits and choosing to nourish by supplementing 1 raw meal a day. Whether that be a protein shake or a Perfect Bar for breakfast or a pressed juice or a salad for lunch. I have substituted cashew milk and all!

  2. BEING A STUDENT - I promise this is not a post to highlight my blogs, although, if you create BOMB content share the hell out of it because you worked so hard to put your heart out there. Recently, I changed careers and have spend the second half of June being the best student. First, it is in healthcare and more specifically: skilled nursing. Second, it also involves a Microsoft HP Elitebook and an Android Samsung Galaxy S9+. Send help! Between my online training and in person trial by fire I know this time next month I will be confident from competence. Catch up on the change here.

  3. HAIR CLIPS FROM THE 90S - You have seen them all over insa! And would you would believe I still have a few a barrettes from when I was a kid? I did score and find some amazing deal on a amazon for too many I will ever use. I am a creature of habit and will usually style my hair the same way, but throwing in a barrette allows for variety. I really wish I could rock the headbands but I get the worst headaches.

  4. WORKAHOLICS - I know this show stopped airing years ago, and if I was doing this blog feature then it would have been on it for sure. I was searching Hulu for a new binge and came across this comedy classic. Three stoner friends surviving corporate america, barely and living for shenanigans- what more can you ask for for a good laugh. I recently watched the Adam Devin Netflix special and it was a hilarious too! Definitely a recommend.

  5. THE ALCHEMIST- Our July book of the month book is The Alchemist by by Paulo Coelho is the story of a shepherd’s journey, but is sooooo much more than that. It was such a great book for my career transition and also a book for anyone and everyone to learn from and most importantly what happens when you pursue your dreams.

JOSE’S FIVE:

  1. DRAKE FT. RICK ROSS (MONEY IN THE GRAVE) - This is my new workout jam. It’s just a good hit you gotta listen to.

  2. WELL FOR CULTURE PODCAST - Well For Culture is an Indigenous wellness initiative to help reclaim health and wellness. Episode 1 is the introductory episode: a breakdown of our general philosophy, a peek into who we are, and a preview of what’s to come. Take a listen here.

  3. DAVID DOBREK VLOG - This youtuber has a comedy vlog series that has had me cracking up from its ability swing emotionally through the episodes. From laughs, to crazy stunts, and celebrity visits catch it all every week for FREE. Check it out here.

  4. LUNCH TIME - Recently, Britt has been home for lunch with me. Its fun to send extra time with your significant other than you normally do. Our time together is precious and I enjoy every second we get.

  5. POOLS!! - As the summer months starts to ramp up, I am thankful for the pool I can jump in and enjoy. I use it to swim and exercise in. Its overall therapy from the harsh temperatures.

July has some fun guests in store and even warmer weather! June FLEW by and I know the last 3 before the wedding will even more!

NO MORE ALMONDS- YOU'RE NUTS

June 21, 2019 Britt Johnson
IMG_9615.jpg

The test results for my food sensitivities test are in. What!? Food sensitivities!? Yes! I took an Everlywell at home test to be more aware of what I am feeding my body. As you can tell by my title, ALMONDS are at the top of the list! And it’s all I can think about eating. But, here are the #5W’s to share my journey from eating nuts to being a healthier nut.

This idea sparked a few years ago when I took an at home DNA test for my golden birthday. I was rehashed with a food test and didn’t bite. I saw a few people on the socials trying the sensitivities test and fascinated with their results. And, finally, over the last 3 years I have tried changing my habits and incorporating juice cleanses, but need the cold, hard facts to tell me what to do.

What is the difference between sensitivities and allergies? The Mayo Clinic best defines it:“Food allergies cause an immune system reaction, where food intolerance/sensitivities symptoms are often limited to digestive problems.” I realized that drinking an overload of kombucha did not produce any more benefits than just a delicious refreshing drink after a certain point. And after my initial I’m hungry and have a bad headache from the first day of juice cleanse feeling I felt great and wanted to carry on that.

SQUEEZED ONLINE & THE ALCHEMIST

I ordered my Everlywell test and it arrived in 3 days. The test kit had everything I needed. First, I created a profile online and registered my code. The registration allowed me to get text confirmations and immediate notifications when my results were ready. Then it was time to collect the sample. I had Jose prick my finger and pool just enough blood to fill three dots on the collection card. Lancets are provided and my brave, strong, future husband did all the work! A few bandaids later, I let the sample paper dry and properly enveloped it to drop off for mailing.

Everly Well’s testing labs are CLIA certified and the test results are independently validated by a doctor. My test results were ready in exactly 7 business days.

My food sensitivity results showed 1 food that was a high reactivity, 4 that were moderate reactivity, 16 that were mild reactivity, and 75 that were low reactivity. Low Reactivity are considered largely non-reactive, as this level of reactivity is considered normal, while High Reactivity (Class 3) foods are considered very reactive and guess what was there- ALMONDS! My favorite nut, my favorite candy bar, my favorite cookie….. now my new love will be Cashews.

Not surprising were my moderate reactivity foods: MILK- COWS, WHEAT, CHEESE- MOZZARELLA, CHEESE- COTTAGE. Well, surprising because I LOVE CHEESE, but not because we all should be more aware of the gluten and dairy we’re intaking. One of my intentions for June was to eat 1 raw meal per day and I have honored that by replacing a meal with a juice or a salad everyday since.

I’ll wrap up my results with my mild reactivity foods, the 16 are: GLUTEN, MALT, POTATO- WHITE, BARLEY, TURKEY, CORN, LETTUCE, CABBAGE, PINEAPPLE, LEMON. PEACH, SOLE. MUSHROOM. COCOA. CHICKEN. WATERMELON. My alcohol reactions now make sense as my body is not tolerating it any more, but if I have to suffer a tummy ache for cocoa, I just might. I can give up Vodka, but not Chocolate.

I will continue my bio hacking journey and taking any tips and tricks to avoid cheese. I will use this info to make healthier decisions for myself and encourage those I love to honor their health too. I loved my experience with Everlywell. They have easy-to-use tests that range from Food Sensitivity to Thyroid, and 30 others. Use my link and get 20% off your purchase!

WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES....

June 14, 2019 Britt Johnson
IMG_5057.JPG

I debated about sharing this. I REALLY debated about sharing this in anyway and the last thing I thought about was writing a blog post about it. BUT, while taking a shower, where I get my best thoughts, it came to me…. why am I not sharing this!

For the past nine years, almost a decade, I’ve been an entrepreneur and more recently I am making the biggest change into corporate America. Why am I scared to share? Because of what others would think of me? Oh, how horrible that is to say, how horrible that is to type, but just thinking about it made me realize that I’m not alone and I definitely need to share and let others know that they can be confident in making and sharing life changes too!

Straight out of college I jumped in to a direct marketing and sales position. I had no idea what I was doing at first but, I knew that I loved it I had a passion for the people I was surrounded by every single day and I was learning something new every single day. Within 24 months, I was running my own marketing company! I was in a completely new state I was making decisions for people’s futures, writing and signing paychecks. I was creating opportunities and jobs for people every single day.

I am more than grateful for the skills that I’ve acquired through a career in direct marketing and sales. The first half of my nearly decade in this industry was building and developing Roadshows for Fortune 100 companies. Learning how to take “No’s to the Chin” and how to time manage like a MOFO was my specialty. The second half was building and developing people and then really honing in on my skill sets in marketing both direct and indirect. I created digital magazines, built websites and took on the challenges of learning photography and videography. I had business coaches and I had life coaches.

I went from running the business to having one of my best friends and business partners allow me to help run her organization on a daily basis. Most recently she’s been presented an opportunity to help hit some of her long-term goals and I am more than excited to watch her grow. This also has allowed me to really look at my goals and ask myself “Where do I see myself growing.” At first I said, “I can’t imagine my life without this business“ and then I realized, “I can’t imagine my life without her in this business.” So the universe provided me with connections and opportunities and without even me sending my resume to the job boards that I am more than familiar with getting candidates from I was put in the right inbox at the right time and made an unbelievable connection into the corporate world of healthcare. This will be a completely different industry, but at the end of the day it’s all about building relationships, putting a smile on somebody’s face and HELPING PEOPLE.

So as this one door closes I see 1 million more opening and I’m definitely not saying goodbye to anyone today it is see you later. Driving to my last day at the office today I listened to the Tim Ferriss Show interview with The Coach with the Spider Tattoo and among many things, one quote stood out to me: “Often times we speak with our actions and go through life without being heard.” And this is my attempt at speaking my actions.

Do I feel better after sharing this? Yes, but not as good as I felt after telling my parents and they were the ones that I was the most nervous, scared, in fact, hesitant, to tell because of what they would think. But why? They’ve shown nothing but love; they have and they always will. So if you’re reading this afraid to tell somebody you love something, I hope this gives you the courage to do just that because tomorrow will be a better day for us all.

Xoxo

MAY FINAL FRIDAY FIVE FAVORITE FINDS

May 31, 2019 Britt Johnson
May Favorite FInds Square.jpg

Wow, May was a QUICK month! I honestly don’t know where it went! We kept our head down focusing on the wall going up and scheduling podcasts episodes to keep us consistent. BUT in between the organized chaos here are the 5 things we are each learning, listening, eating, drinking and loving!

BRITT’S FIVE

  1. URBAN DAWN’S “COME TOGETHER” - Drum and bass is my favorite genre of music for many reasons! Top 2 are: fast beats and the absolute skill that comes with producing and actually Dj-ing this music. Urban Dawn has been producing tunes for a while, BUT this tune is absolute bananas. Everyone likes the Beatles, so you will recognize this classic hit, but once the drop hits.... WOW! You can listen on Spotify here.

  2. FRUITS, VEGGIES & TEAS - Not exciting I know, but I have been becoming more conscious of what I can and should eat. Understanding Tapatio isn’t one of them anymore. Lately I have been craving nutritious foods like raw broccoli, unsweetened black tea, nuts and seeds. I dislike peanut butter but love The Peanut Butter Perfect Bar! On the go, QT has an amazing selection of fresh brewed teas. So when we need refreshing drinks we reach for tea instead of soda.

  3. DALLMYD - aka Scuba Jake aka Scuba Steve 2019. Let me preface this by saving I am not savvy in the YouTubes, but I heard about Suba Jake, a young treasure hunter who returns and cleans up what he finds. I can watch him and his friends search underwater for hours. It may not always be crystal clear waters but guaranteed he finds the crazy stuff! From guns, to gemstones, even snakes. Watch one of his videos here. The sound of the water is so soothing and the first person Gopro cam is a great perspective.

  4. THAIRAPY CLIPLESS CURLER - For the nearly a decade I have a had my hand in developing roadshows for major retailers and one of our latest clients is Thairapy. It’s designed to lock nutrients in your hair with their styling tools and my favorite, the clip-less curler is made with tourmaline. I have ALWAYS been a fan of the wand / clipless curler, but this one leaves my hair with more volume and lasts longer. It’s sold out on Amazon and Neiman Marcus but you can check here for you local Costco roadshow!

  5. THE GREAT 48 - Yes, of course, Joe and I had to pick this month’s Phoenix Magazine! The honorary Great 48 Issue was released and who can you find among the media team? Jose and the Finding Arizona Podcast. I’m not saying that my manifestation of putting this on my vision board back in January (you can see the photo here on my pinterest page), but I am also saying what you put out there will come back to you! APRIL FINAL FRIDAY FIVE FAVORITE FINDS

April 26, 2019 Britt Johnson
April Favorite FInds

The second installment of Five Favorite Finds is officially here. April means Spring! It is a beautiful season is Arizona. The plants are blossoming and the temps are rising. We had a Spring Cleaning day and literally wiped the baseboards, washed the curtains and reorganized the entire house. Six hours later, we were smudging sage and enjoying our cleanse. We got outside more and even took our first jump in the pool for 2019. Along with that, here are the FIVE things we were obsessing over this month.

BRITT’S FIVE

  1. BURGERS ON THE GRILL - High School was my first attempt at BBQing. I turned on the grill, laid on the carne and walked away. A few minutes later the grill was on fire and the meat was charred! Since then, I haven’t been a “grill master.” Also, I really don’t enjoy the smell it leaves in my hair and clothes, BUT when it’s hot and you don’t want to cook anything the grill is such a great way to eat a home cooked meal in a timely manner. I picked up frozen burgers from Walmart and nights we don’t have a meal planned or lunches were to sweaty to make means popping some burgers on. Guess what? I can grill (burgers)! I don’t walk away, I add my secret seasoning and in just a few minutes we have a fresh, hot meal.

  2. CHARCOAL EVERYTHING - Speaking of grills, charcoal is amazing and definitely makes a flavor difference but the only charcoal I have been dabbling in is the health and wellness kind! From deodorant, toothpaste, face sponges and lemondes, activated charcoal is such a powerful cleansing tool. Schmidt’s deodorants have been our favorite switch and I love the charcoal one! I also recently purchased their toothpaste, and I won’t go back! I am struggling (still) with a skincare routine, but I picked up a charcoal face sponge and love the gentle exfoliation. Lastly, a local juicery, Kaleidoscope Juice offers charcoal water and charcoal lemonade and nothing is more thirst quenching!

  3. YOGA - Okay, nothing new and exciting about this one, BUT my own practice has been non existent. I was talking with a friend who was AMAZED I practice on my own and said I should share that more! So I did and I don’t know why? Maybe ……. #PicOrItDidntHappen . I scheduled a yoga night for our office where I lead a meditation and flow and I am not sure who loved it more, me or them! I got to get creative in my playlist and choreography while leading and sharing one of my passion. We have already scheduled our May flow!

  4. BLACKOUT -Podcast recommendation time! This is a long overdue blog post for sure! I KNOW you are already subscribed to the Finding Arizona Podcast, and listen weekly, but I have a new recommendation for you. Do you like Rami Malek? Do you like the Handmaid’s Tale? Then you will LOVE Blackout. It is a visual podcast that takes you on a post apocalyptic journey of a radio show host and his families struggles within a small town. I wont say anymore, because, spoiler alerts, but you can subscribe and binge here.

  5. THE ACT- You may remember this news story from 2015 about a Facebook post going viral regarding a mother’s murder and the name Gypsy Rose. This disturbing, true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee depicts a mother who suffered from Munchausen by proxy and, for years claimed her daughter suffered from various diseases. Gypsy learns the truth and after falling in love online with a bipolar teenager, they plot to kill Dee Dee and start their life together, but as you can imagine things don’t go to their plan. All 8 episodes are available on Hulu now, happy binging!

FESTIVAL SEASON

April 14, 2019 Britt Johnson
Finding Arizona Blog Festival Season

Ten years ago I would have be preparing for a different type of event season. Probably one of the ones you're seeing now. Creating my outfits, planning my hotels stays, and organizing set lists to see. But, I have had my fair share of music festivals and find myself now focusing on planning different types of events. In the last 10 days I have hosted, helped and crashed 3 very different, but very impactful events and I wanted to share my takeaways. Whether you are packing for Indio or Idaho, Miami, FL or Miami, AZ getting out and experiencing community is so important .

THE EMERALD PRESENTS : PODCASTS & PROSECCO

When I first heard about this event through social media I immediately reached out! I thought: a podcast event in AZ… we HAVE to get involved! Open heartedly, The Emerald welcomed me on board. The idea was to feature powerful women in the current podcast space to encourage and support up and coming podcasts. It was that and so much more! I was able to bring some of our tips and tricks, but also the idea of topics, questions, and a workbook to be incorporated. With the talented work of The Emerald and of course the amazing female speakers the event was a success. Myself and Ashlyn of The Emerald moderated our 4 pannelsits: Cayla Craft of Mommy Millionaire, Mika Perry of Good To Be Home, Danny Johnson of The Best Life, and Espree Devora of Women in Tech.

It was FULL day from panel Q&A, breakout sessions, and of course a networking lunch in between. The best advice I received was from Espree about valuing yourself, your brand understanding the value I can bring other brands. This was over a mimosa, before 10am and before the event “ started.” BUT, Honestly, my biggest takeaway took place before the event happened. I am about to get real, and if you are reading this I hope you know I am sharing this to encourage you to not make the mistake I did, or I had been. I was not expecting The Emerald to welcome me into the team to get involved, so lesson #1: don’t be afraid to reach out! But lesson #2 came 12 hours before the event started. I worked my ass off researching, sharing, and preparing for this event as well as putting my heart out there only to receive the “final” info with no credit of mine to be found. If you know me, you know my love lang is NOT words of affirmation, or even acts of service, but to be left unappreciated is how I felt. I let that emotion run through me and I made an educated decision to let my voice be heard. I threw on my heart chakra necklace and made my voice be heard, professionally. Graciously my demands were met and the respect was given and the overall success of the event was amazing- before, during and after!

THE KNOW SUMMIT 2019

You already know about the Know, and if you don’t know Know, you can read my blog here. But the Know Summit, wow, wow, wow! Over 150 women from 7 books and tribes in the U.S and Canada gathered for a three day immersive networking conference. “For us, by us,” was the motto because there wasn’t a speaker, moderator or vendor who is not apart of the tribe. Day 1 was was round tables and a happy hour mixing with the best of the best as the Best Of Know Book was unveiled. Day 3 was a VIP excursion to Sedona for a little more interacting and a lot more vacaying. But day 2 was my fave and what I helped to coordinate. Day 2 was an ALL DAY summit featuring 40 speakers, a marketplace, breakout sessions and a networking lunch at the fabulous FABRIC Tempe, What I helped bring to the table was the incredible marketplace: an outdoor shopping and mingling experience to support fellow tribe members and record with some pretty cool podcasts! The Finding Arizona Podcast was hitting record all day with the great ladies of the summit and you can hear the full episode here. At 5:30 p.m., as the sun was setting, the tables were tearing down and the ladies were saying their goodbyes, I took in the moment of gratitude for coordinating with amazing partners a for a functional and fantastic marketplace.

Attending the summit and hearing from the amazing speakers I took a plenty of notes on my phone app, but what stands out to me the most is the quote from Letitia Frye: “When you change your expectations to admirations your whole world changes.” Whether this means the value of myself, my business or others appreciation is greater than depreciation. I build some great relationships and the summit and strengthened current ones but overall really appreciated being surrounded by such powerful women!

BLOGGER BABES AZ INFLUENCER EVENT

Last, but not least was this little hidden gem. I saw this event scrolling through the gram and was messaged and encourage to attend. I was going with the intention to be the best student. As our podcast is growing I am learning to take on more partnerships and as my blog grows I want to make sure I am remaining authentic and showcasing who I am and not just another brand ambassador, I train those. I met the CEO of Well and Co and heard inspiring stories from him and his business partners. I learned the trend of micro influences and re-affirmed a message to myself. I met a health and wellness enthusiast whose family has a coffee shop in south Phoenix and connected better with her than an “blogger” I had been “adminiring” on insta for months. I connected better with someone who was being herself and resonated more with speaking sharing their true authentic selves and not with the one I thought I wanted to be like on a digital space. WOW! Shocker right? Sometimes you have to experience it to believe it.

Now we get to work on our own events, preparing for a podcast workshop of our own we put together this amazing PDF you can print and share to start your own podcast. CLICK HERE ! Get the tools in your belt and stay tuned for the workshop info on how to use them! Also, another big event were prepping for is on October 12! Oh yeah, more about that soon!
